Helps, Kathleen- April 24, 1939 – April 21, 2016
Kathleen Helps (Jackson) passed away peacefully on Thursday April 21, 2016 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in her 77th year. Devoted and beloved wife of her husband Frank for 57 years. Loved Mother of her daughters Julie (Tom) Allen, Jackie (Ed) Szabunia, and Jeannette Helps (Don Jarron). Adored by her four grandchildren Ashley, Erica, Samantha and Jackson and two great-grandchildren Makayla and Caiden. Kathleen was born in Salford, England but lived most of her life in Oshawa. She leaves behind her three sisters in England; Hilda, Mavis and Eunice. Predeceased by her daughter Jayne, her brother Brian and sister Sylvia. Commonly known as Kathy or Aunt Kath, she was deeply loved and respected by everyone who knew her. Kathy embraced life with a positive attitude and an ability to laugh and have fun, even during difficult times. Her compassionate and caring nature touched many lives during her years of service at Clarington Kids Daycare. Kathy was a member of the Sweet Adelines for 25 years, her love of singing was as big as her love of people. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Forbes and Laurie, and all the nurses of the Supportive Care Unit for their compassion, caring and service.
Visitation and services will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King St. East, Oshawa. Visitation will be on Monday April 25th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Memorial Service on Tuesday April 26th at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. Celebration of Life will follow at the Waltzing Weasel in Oshawa. As an expression of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in Kathy’s honour, be made to the Palliative Care Unit or Supportive Care Unit of Lakeridge Health Oshawa or any charity of your choosing.
